On 22 January 2019, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai shared his vision of fostering a responsible approach to innovation in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with 1,200 students of Technische Universität Berlin. After some opening remarks, Pichai and Professor Volker Markl, chair of the University’s Database Systems and Information Management Group, engaged in a conversation on the following questions: What direction is AI research taking? What does this mean for society? Will AI replace, shift, or jumpstart jobs? What role do large companies play in AI’s further development?
